Performance Modeling of Non-homogeneous Unreliable Multi-Server Systems using MOSEL1

چکیده
In this paper, we introduce a non-homogeneous unreliable multi-server system with Markovian arrival, service, breakdown and repair processes. First we consider the case with only one queue and different servers and the job assigns to one server. Then we extend this model to more than one queue in which the jobs are assigned to different queues. We assume that our system has different servers with different service times and a job is assigned to a server using the following strategies: FFS (Fastest Free Server) or random selection. FFS strategy means that the job is served by the fastest available server, and if this server is busy then the job goes to the next available server and so on. In our problem, we consider a general queuing system (M/M/n) with a finite number of jobs K in the whole system. Our system is unreliable; this means that we need to specify the parameters, mtbf and mttr (mean time between failures and mean time to repair), and we need to consider the possibility that a server might be up or down at some point of time. The performance modeling of this type of system is done using the programming language MOSEL (MOdeling Specification and Evaluation Language), which contains several constructs to describe the system, the results (performance parameters) and the graphical representation. 1. Problem Description The calculation of the performance measure is fairly simple if there is only one server (M/M/1), or several servers with identical service time arranged in parallel, and the inter-arrival

Bi-objective optimization of multi-server intermodal hub-location-allocation problem in congested systems: modeling and solution
A new multi-objective intermodal hub-location-allocation problem is modeled in this paper in which both the origin and the destination hub facilities are modeled as an M/M/m queuing system. The problem is being formulated as a constrained bi-objective optimization model to minimize the total costs as well as minimizing the total system time. A small-size problem is solved on the GAMS software t...
متن کاملUnreliable Server Mx/G/1 Queue with Loss-delay, Balking and Second Optional Service
This investigation deals with MX/G/1 queueing model with setup, bulk- arrival, loss-delay and balking. The provision of second optional service apart from essential service by an unreliable server is taken into consideration. We assume that the delay customers join the queue when server is busy whereas loss customers depart from the system. After receiving the essential service, the customers m...
متن کاملA Multiprocessor System with Non-Preemptive Earliest-Deadline-First Scheduling Policy: A Performability Study
This paper introduces an analytical method for approximating the performability of a firm realtime system modeled by a multi-server queue. The service discipline in the queue is earliestdeadline- first (EDF), which is an optimal scheduling algorithm. Real-time jobs with exponentially distributed relative deadlines arrive according to a Poisson process. All jobs have deadlines until the end of s...
متن کامل(m, M) Machining system with two unreliable servers, mixed spares and common-cause failure
This paper deals with multi-component machine repair model having provision of warm standby units and repair facility consisting of two heterogeneous servers (primary and secondary) to provide repair to the failed units. The failure of operating and standby units may occur individually or due to some common cause. The primary server may fail partially following full failure whereas secondary se...
متن کاملWorking Vacation Queue with Second Optional Service and Unreliable Server
An M/M/1 queueing system with second optional service and unreliable server is studied. We consider that the server works at different rate rather than being idle during the vacation period. The customers arrive to the system according to Poisson process with state dependent rates depending upon the server’s status. All customers demand the first essential service whereas only some of them dema...
